Feinberg Library's Special Collections Contest Winner Announced

Congratulations to Julie Dresser from Sycamore, Illinois for her winning essay in the 2012 “I Found it in the Archives” contest held by Feinberg Library’s Special Collections.

“It’s not often one is able to find the first hand account of the death of an ancestor," writes Ms. Dresser in her essay. “I’ve discovered many wonderful things in many different archives across the United States, but these letters, with their first hand accounts of different events, are my greatest of the great.”

As the contest winner, Ms. Dresser will receive a plaque, and a voucher worth $50 in free photocopies and scans of Special Collections materials.

Her essay was also entered into the national “I Found it in the Archives” contest, sponsored by the Society of American Archivists (SAA). The winner of the national contest will be hosted by the SAA at its annual awards ceremony in San Diego in August 2012.

Ms. Dresser, who works as an elementary teacher's aide, has been an avid genealogist for the past 30 years. When she is not researching, she loves to read and travel.
